Gypsy Soul and the Marquee

I wanted to have a go at making my own marquee sign. It started with a very simple design. You can't get any more basic than a rectangle. Right? hmm it took waaaay longer than I thought.
At least I knew that I needed 24 holes for the lights
Thanks to the rhinestone feature in my Silhouette Studio software, it was easy enough to add the circles to the frame. It just took a little tweaking and aligning of the cuts.
I designed the picture in the software as well, using the pattern and solid fill options to get the background. The plumeria flowers were a download from the store as were the flamingos.
I printed everything but actually cut the birds and flowers out by hand. I enjoy layering the pieces together for extra dimension.
It goes back to my youth, I think, watching my mom create beautiful paper tole. She and I have spent countless hours cutting paper. xoxo
here it is all lit up. I am very happy with the final result. It's really feminine and pretty.
Thanks for looking! see you soon.

Tropical Marquee Beauty

Hi Everyone!
Mary R over at SVGCuts.com released a new kit a couple weeks ago, and I LOVE IT!
It's the Tiki Party kit

Here's my project that I made...

I wanted it to match my beach house decor, so I used subtle wood colors as the background.
I bought these awesome embossing folders a couple of months ago that really give a deep impression into the paper. I cut the pieces out in the same grey wood paper, embossed them and then highlighted the texture with Iced Spruce distress oxide ink

I cut the second layer of the petals out with a foil cardstock then tinted the pieces with alcohol ink after I embossed them with a hibiscus pattern.  Pink glitter and sticky back gems were added after I assembled the flower.

Here it is all lit up!  So pretty.
thanks for taking a look, see you soon.

Urban Scrapbook's Monthly kit - July and Good-bye

Hello everyone,
I'm so sad. We have to say good-bye to the best scrapbook store I've had the ultimate pride and pleasure to be part of. The ladies at Urban Scrapbook Edmonton have been my surrogate sisters for years. With that being said, here is the last layout for the monthly kits we were given for July.

The fun paper/chipboard is from Echo Park. I started with this great photo (found on Pinterest). I totally want a beer cooler like that - so awesome.
The stencil and ink is included in the kit. I inked through the stencil to create a background and inked the edges of my 12x12 paper.
The paper flower was inked up using the Distress Oxide inks. I used the "dip" technique. You know - the one where you squish some ink on your mat, spray with water, and dip your paper in the watery inky goodness. Easy!
Well my lovelies, Let's have a great summer and remember, "don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened" xoxo
